Have you all done research on the chances are of landing a coding position with an RHIT certification without coding experience? Maybe AHIMA are already aware of the risk factors. I was certified March 2016 & could not find a coding position (there are many like myself), I took my cpc in Sept 2016, passed and was hired as a coder in 2 weeks

I've done some environmental scanning on hiring practices for coders. Many organizations outsource their recruitment processes now, and they want experienced coders because they don't have the time or resources to train a new grad or certificate-holder. There is also the issue of backlogs and keeping accounts receivable manageable, which prevents facilities from taking newer professionals, again because of the time involved in training and bringing new employees up to speed.

I am a RHIT and I have an array of experience in the HIM field from leadership, release of information, medical records clerk, compliance, coding and etc.
I have over 15 years experience in coding. When applying for coding positions I expand on my experiences in coding. This includes schooling and internships. This provides the employer with vision and understanding of my background.
